Recently, a shield machine with a diameter of 9.28 meters was successfully rolled off the assembly line in Changsha Second Industrial Park of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, which is the fifth of the series of shield machines exported to Italy by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, and will participate in the construction of the high-speed railway tunnel project between Palermo and Catania in Sicily, Italy.

It is reported that the equipment will pass through fragile sedimentary rocks, clay and other strata to complete the 7.472-kilometer excavation task in the first line and two sections. According to the characteristics of engineering geology and hydrological conditions, the R&D team of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry has developed and applied a number of new technologies such as push-fight synchronization, permanent magnet drive, inverted arch cast-in-situ, ultra-high pressure relief and trolley automatic steering, which makes the equipment more efficient and energy-saving, can greatly improve construction efficiency, and significantly improve the working environment of workers. In addition, the whole machine also meets the requirements of ATEX (European Union Explosion Protection Directive) and CE (Safety Qualification Standard) standards.
